Fiance(e) Visas

A fiancé (e) is a person who is engaged or contracted to be married. The marriage must be legally possible according to laws of the state in the United States where the marriage will take place. In general, the two people must have met in person within the two years prior to the date the petition was filed. The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) grants some exceptions to this requirement.

The U.S. citizen sponsor must file Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé (e), with the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office that serves the area where his/she lives. See the Department of Homeland Security’s USCIS Field Offices for information on where you can file the petition. Further information is available on the USCIS website under fiancé (e) Visas. Note: Form I-129F cannot be filed at a U.S. Embassy, Consulate, or USCIS office abroad.

After USCIS approves the petition, it is sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing, and NVC will send it to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where your fiancé (e) will apply for a K-1 nonimmigrant visa for a fiancé (e).

Effective May 1, 2014, the interview appointment procedure for K1 fiancé (e) and K3 visas have been changed. Applicants need to make an appointment through http://www.ustraveldocs.com/tw/, a website maintained by our authorized partner, CGI Stanley. Please read the procedures carefully and make sure you have paid the correct K visa fee and bring your appointment letter to your interview with any other required documents. If you have any problem with the online appointment, please contact the call center at support-taiwan@ustraveldocs.com

Each K visa applicant must fill out a DS-160, online visa application form, and bring the printout of the DS-160 confirmation page to his/her K visa interview.

Effective September 12, 2014, K visa application fee will increase from US$240 to US$265. K visa fees paid will be accepted 90 days after the new fees go into effect. If you paid your K visa fee before September 12, 2014, and your visa interview is on or after December 12, 2014, you will be required to pay the difference between the old and new fee amounts – no exceptions.
