American Institute in Taiwan Director Kin Moy today announced that 84 companies from a variety of industries across Taiwan will be travelling to Washington D.C. to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit (Summit), June 18-20, 2017. The Summit is the United States’ highest profile event to connect global companies and U.S. economic development organizations (EDOs) to facilitate business investment in the United States.

“We are entering a new period of economic revival in the United States,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “This is an exciting time for global companies to explore the U.S. market and find partners that can help them create a footprint, expand operations, and achieve growth. There is no better place to make those connections than this Summit.”

Taiwan has had a strong presence at previous Investment Summits in the United States. This year, the Taiwan delegation is the largest ever, with 140 delegates from 84 companies representing potential investors, local business associations, and Taiwan authorities. The participating companies represent a variety of industries, including petrochemical, iron and steel, ICT, biotechnology, banking, machinery, aerospace, franchising, and education. This demonstrates the deep ties and broad range of Taiwan industries interested in either establishing or expanding their businesses in the United States.

“We are thrilled to welcome 84 Taiwan companies to the Summit and to the United States,” said Kin Moy, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan. “And, we are particularly pleased to have a business delegation of Taiwan executives led by National Policy Advisor to the President, Ho Mei-Yueh as an integral part of our overall delegation to the SelectUSA Summit. AIT is grateful for the strong interest from the Taiwan business community, and the partnership with the Taiwan authorities, in assembling this important trade delegation.”

The United States is currently home to more foreign direct investment (FDI) than any other country in the world, with a total stock of $3.1 trillion at the end of 2015. Taiwan companies currently operating in the U.S. support nearly 12,000 jobs, invest almost $100 million annually in innovative R&D and contribute close to $700 million in U.S. goods exports.

The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the highest profile event to connect global companies and U.S. EDOs to facilitate business investment in the United States. To date, representatives from 51 U.S. states and territories and more than 65 international markets have registered for the 2017 Investment Summit.

The previous three SelectUSA Summits in 2014, 2015, and 2016 attracted thousands of international investors, with the 2016 Summit alone attracting more than 2,600 total attendees, including investors from 70 markets, EDOs from 52 U.S. states and territories, and 22 chiefs of mission. Past Summit participants announced $20.6 billion of new investment projects in the United States from 2014 to 2016.
