AIT to Hold Annual Youth Camp Featuring Regional Cooperation

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will hold a regional youth camp at National Chengchi University from July 29 to 31, 2016.

The three-day program will bring together 50 university students from Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam to discuss regional development and cooperation. This is the fourth year that AIT will hold a summer youth camp. AIT is delighted to partner with three regional countries to welcome students to the camp.

The 2016 AIT Youth Camp is part of AIT’s ongoing engagement with youth in Taiwan. It provides Taiwan youth with an opportunity to engage with their counterparts from Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, increase cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen cooperation among Asia’s dynamic youth community. The camp is composed of lecture panels led by U.S. government exchange program alumni, cultural visits to Taipei Hakka Cultural Park and U-Theatre, an activity with the NGO One-Forty and migrant workers, and leadership development sessions. Young American students will serve as mentors and join the campers throughout the program.

The camp is free of charge for selected students. The first AIT camp was held in 2013 with a focus on arts and culture, the second in 2014 with a focus on environmental protection, and the third in 2015 with a focus on social inclusion. The 2016 camp on regional cooperation attracted nearly 600 applicants from approximately 80 schools in Taiwan. "We are delighted to help students engage in the local community and build connections to the world. We hope participants would consider the camp to be a starting point for their future global engagements." says AIT American Center Director, Alys Spensley.
