U.S. Ambassador on Human Trafficking Issues to Visit Taiwan July 26-29

Susan Coppedge, Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State, is scheduled to visit Taiwan July 26-29, 2016.

During her stay in Taiwan, Ambassador Coppedge will meet with Taiwan officials and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to exchange views on working together to combat trafficking in persons and ways Taiwan can continue to increase its anti-trafficking efforts. She will also deliver keynote remarks at the 2016 International Workshop on Strategies for Combating Human Trafficking.

Ambassador Coppedge was confirmed by the Senate and appointed by President Obama in October 2015 to lead the United States’ global efforts against human trafficking. She previously served for 15 years as Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Georgia, where she prosecuted cases of transnational and domestic sex trafficking of adults and children, as well as labor trafficking.

The Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons assesses global trends, provides strategic foreign assistance funding, and engages foreign governments, civil society, other U.S. agencies and key stakeholders in the fight against modern slavery.

Taiwan was placed on Tier 1 for the seventh year in a row in the Department of State’s 2016 Trafficking in Persons Report.
