AIT to Hold First Youth Leadership Camp
PR-1332E | Date: 08/30/2013
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) will hold the AIT Youth Leadership Camp at the National Center for Traditional Arts in Yilan from September 3rd to 4th, 2013. The two-day program is the first of its kind that AIT has offered to young students in Taiwan. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with a broad range of alumni of U.S. State Department exchange programs.
The AIT Youth Leadership Camp aims to enhance participants' understanding of the role of a global leader and to introduce the tools that rising global leaders need to effectively engage their communities. The camp will include lectures and discussions on international relations, arts and culture, and NGO involvement. At the end of activities, participants will make presentations highlighting what they have learned.
AIT publicized the youth leadership camp through college campuses and AIT's Facebook page, and selected 50 university students from hundreds of applicants. The participants, from all regions of Taiwan, are junior and seniors whose majors include liberal arts, management, engineering, and medical school.
The camp is part of AIT’s ongoing effort to engage youth in Taiwan. The Youth Leadership Camp will be followed by a Youth Forum, to be held on September 14 in Taipei.
Joseph Bookbinder, Chief of AIT's Public Diplomacy Section, said, "The Youth Leadership Camp will be a good medium for Taiwan youth to focus their attention on global issues. It will also be a great opportunity for Taiwan's future leaders to engage themselves in the local communities and connect themselves to the world."
Members of the media are invited to cover the AIT Youth Leadership in Yilan on September 3. Media availability is scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please contact AIT's Public Diplomacy Section at 02-2162-2037 (cell 0975-082767; 0928-537151) for more details.
