U.S. Flavors Delight at Taipei International Food Show

The Agricultural Trade Office of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) welcomes Taiwan importers of food and agricultural products and retail and food service buyers to visit the USA Pavilion at the 2013 Taipei International Food Show from June 26 to 29 at the World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall. For the 2013 Food Taipei, the USA Pavilion is the largest international pavilion, encompassing 75 booths and more than 25 companies. The U.S. exhibitors are offering a wide variety of high-quality American food and agricultural products from meat and potatoes to tree nuts and condiments, cold brew coffee concentrates and many others. Taiwan agri-food industry buyers are welcome to visit the USA Pavilion to explore new business opportunities with U.S. suppliers.

The 2013 USA Pavilion has broken new ground in the gourmet arena by inviting international top culinary talents to participate in the exciting inaugural edition of the United Tastes of America - Asian Chef Challenge, which will be held in the American Kitchen on June 27. The winning chefs* from preliminary competitions in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taipei will face off for the grand championship. Throughout the three hours of competition, the chefs will prepare a superlative four-course menu by improvising from a list of mandatory U.S. food ingredients. The winning team will be awarded round-trip air tickets from Delta Airlines to attend the Worlds of Flavor International Conference & Festival in the U.S., which is organized by The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the USA's premier culinary education institution.

The USA Pavilion will also provide local chefs and food service buyers with information about the latest dining trends in America, including food and wine pairing and meat-cutting/presentation practices. On June 28, the Agricultural Trade Office of the American Institute in Taiwan will partner with The Culinary Institute of America to introduce continuing culinary education opportunities for professional chefs. Then, on June 28 and 29, the Unitech Foodservice Equipment Corporation will showcase the American Kitchen's advanced equipment to cook a variety of great American foods. Throughout the food show period, the Wisconsin Ginseng Board will organize unprecedented flash mobs to energize visitors with refreshing new show experiences!

Following the food show, a series of exciting culinary events, celebrating the birthday of the United States will roll on in July, beginning with CitySuper's kick-off of its USA Food Festival on July 4. Through July 22, consumers will have a chance to win the lucky draw grand prize of round-trip air tickets to Chicago. In addition to retail promotions, Grand Hi Lai Hotel in Kaohsiung will launch a tantalizing American-month menu featuring high-quality U.S. dry-aged beef during July. So, get ready for a summer extravaganza in celebration of great American food!

  • Tokyo - Kenzo Estate Winery: Chef Yonezawa Fumio and Chef Mariko Kuramoto
  • Hong Kong - Derby Restaurant, Hong Kong Jockey Club: Chef Eyck Christian Zimmer and Chef Yiu Sing Lau
  • Shanghai - Le Domaine du Lac: Chef Yi-Lin Pan and Chef Xiao-Hwa Lee
  • Taipei - Bite-2-Eat: Chef Edward Lee and Chef Ethan Lin
