PR-1253E | Date: 10/11/2012
The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to co-sponsor the 2012 Daniel Pearl Day of Music, a free outdoor concert that will take place on Saturday, October 20th from 1:00-10:00 p.m. at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park, No.2, Section 3, Tingchou Road, Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City.
The concert commemorates the life of Daniel Pearl, who died tragically in 2002 at the hands of terrorists in Karachi, Pakistan, while serving as the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal. Every year, concerts are held around the world to commemorate his life. Mr. Pearl's family and friends came together to work towards a more humane world, forming the Daniel Pearl Foundation, which conducts Daniel Pearl World Music Days annually. The mission of the Foundation is to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and innovative communications. Since its beginning in 2002, Daniel Pearl Music Days has grown internationally to include more than 6,700 performances in 111 countries harnessing the power of music to spread a message of tolerance, hope and humanity.
The Taipei event will include 16 live performances on two outdoor stages comprised of local and foreign musicians. The groups offer a variety of musical genres, including rock, blues, folk, reggae, jazz, and other genres.
