AIT Announces Delegation Representing the American People to Inauguration of Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to announce that it has organized a delegation representing the American people to attend the May 20, 2012, inauguration of Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou.

Former White House Chief of Staff William M. Daley will lead the delegation.

Mr. Daley served as White House Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama from January 2011 to January 2012. He served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce from 1997 to 2000 under President Bill Clinton. Mr. Daley’s private-sector positions include membership on the Executive Committee of JP Morgan Chase & Co.

Mr. Daley will be joined on the delegation by Dr. James Steinberg, Dr. Anne-Marie Slaughter, Ambassador Raymond Burghardt, and Dr. Richard Bush.

Dr. James Steinberg is Dean of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School and Professor of Social Science, International Affairs and Law. Prior to becoming Dean on July 1, 2011, he served as Deputy Secretary of State, the principal Deputy to Secretary Clinton.

Dr. Anne-Marie Slaughter is the Bert G. Kerstetter ’66 Professor of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. She served as Director of Policy Planning in the State Department from 2009 to 2011 and Dean of Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs from 2002 to 2009.

Ambassador Raymond Burghardt is the Chairman of the Board of the American Institute in Taiwan and Director of East-West Seminars at the East-West Center in Honolulu. Ambassador Burghardt previously served as Ambassador in Vietnam and as the Director of AIT-Taipei.

Dr. Richard C. Bush is a senior fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., and the director of its Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies. Previously, he served as Chairman and Managing Director of the American Institute in Taiwan from 1997 to 2002.
