10th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days in Taipei Free Concert Call for Harmony for Humanity Commemorates 10th Anniversary of 9/11
PR-1143E | Date: 09/02/2011
The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to co-sponsor the 2011 Daniel Pearl World Music Days, on Sunday, September 11, 2011, as AIT joins the international community to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
The 2011 Daniel Pearl World Music Days in Taipei features a free outdoor concert that will take place on September 11th from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Huashan Grassland (URS27 site. Address: 27, Linsen North Road, Taipei)
The concert will include live performances on two outdoor stages by 18 music groups comprised of local and foreign musicians. The groups offer a variety of musical genres, including bluegrass, blues, country, rock & roll and reggae. This year, Todd Mack, founder of the Friends of Danny Festival (FODfest), will visit Taiwan to perform in the tribute event, and give a lecture about his friend Daniel Pearl at the TEDxTaipei Salon the day before.
In addition, a moment of silence will be held to mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Todd Mack and the musical group Bopomofo will perform "Hallelujah" and “Blues with Feeling”, to honor and celebrate the resilience of individuals, families and communities who have been victims and survivors for the past 10 year.
Since its beginning, Daniel Pearl Music Days has grown internationally to include more than 6,700 performances in 111 countries harnessing the power of music to promote "Harmony for Humanity". Taipei was one of the first cities to participate in this event.
An accomplished journalist and musician, Daniel Pearl died tragically in 2002 at the hands of terrorists while serving as the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal. To celebrate his life, Pearl's musician friends came together in 2002 to launch the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an event that has led to annual worldwide concerts in October memorializing Pearl and spreading a message of tolerance, hope and humanity.
Members of the media are invited to attend a news conference on Thursday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Recreation Room of Taipei Artist Village (2nd Floor, 7, Beiping East Road) for the concert.
