2010 U.S.-Taiwan Clean Energy Forum and Expo in Kaohsiung

PR-1074E | Date: 12/08/2010

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to announce that the grand opening ceremony for the first-ever U.S.-Taiwan Clean Energy Forum will take place at Kaohsiung's National Museum of Science Technology at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.

The opening ceremony features a keynote address by President Ma Ying-jeou, a special videotaped greeting from U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Secretary Daniel B. Poneman, as well as remarks by AIT Director William A. Stanton, Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration Minister Stephen Shen and Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu. Over 500 U.S. and Taiwan representatives, business leaders, academics and students will attend the opening ceremony.

The ceremony also marks the opening of the U.S.-Taiwan Clean Technology Expo, which will be on display in the National Museum of Science and Technology lobby from December 14-24. The expo will feature over 20 U.S. and Taiwan exhibitors from the public and private sectors who are leaders in clean technology innovation.

Following the opening ceremony, the forum will move to National Sun Yat-Sen University for two days of specialized seminars featuring 21 presentations on clean energy innovation by distinguished speakers from both the U.S. and Taiwan. U.S. speakers include UCLA Professor and U.S. EPA Presidential Award Winner Dr. James Liao, Chicago Climate Exchange Vice President Jeff Huang, Portland (Oregon) International Affairs Director Noah Siegel, Boeing International Corporation Vice President Paul Fang, U.S. New Resource Bank Founder Peter Liu, and Weston Solutions Inc. Vice President Michael Chen. One of the seminars will focus on the U.S. city of Portland, Oregon, which has invested heavily in public transit, land use planning and energy efficiency and is considered one of the U.S.'s "greenest" cities.

AIT Public Affairs Officer Sheila Paskman stated that "we are pleased that this unprecedented event will help us highlight longstanding U.S. and Taiwan cooperation on energy issues, as well as President Obama's determination to promote clean energy innovation in the U.S. We are also delighted to have the chance to hold this event in Kaohsiung, which has achieved many successes over the last several decades in building a cleaner, more sustainable future. We hope that the forum and the expo will underscore the vital role that local governments, private businesses and grass roots organizations play in complementing national efforts to promote clean energy development."
