AIT Commercial Section and U.S. Trade and Development Agency Sponsor Delegation to the United States on Secure E-Commerce Infrastructure Technologies December 8-17, 1999

The AIT Commercial Section (AIT COMM) will lead a group of fifteen high level public and private-sector decision-makers from Taiwan to the United States December 8-17, 1999 to explore U.S. technologies in the area of e-commerce financial infrastructure systems and Internet security. Confirmed delegates include Finance Vice Minister Sean Chen and representatives from Taiwan's Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation. Other delegates include representatives from Taiwan's leading banks, securities firms and electronic business and information technology organizations.

Structuring a secure electronic transaction infrastructure is vital to fostering electronic commerce in Taiwan. While Taiwan is moving forward aggressively with business-to-business and business-to-consumer electronic commerce, electronic banking and internet securities trading, further development is essential to bolster secure channels, to create gateway systems for secure money transfers, to design and implement certificate authorities and certification procedures and to fortify firewall security technologies. This mission will focus on technical solutions to these issues.

AIT COMM has collaborated with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) on this project. USTDA is paying all associated costs for Taiwan public sector delegates and partial expenses for private-sector guests. AIT COMM and USTDA's contractor, Computer Frontiers, Inc., are scheduling a tightly focused series of meetings with U.S. vendors and site visits in Silicon Valley, CA; Washington, D.C.; and New York, NY. While in New York, the delegation will visit the E-Business Conference and Expo.
