American Institute in Taiwan Announces a Special String Quartet Performance by North America Elite Youth Orchestra July 7, 1999

The Cultural and Information Section of the American Institute in Taiwan will present a String Quartet Performance "Enchanting Melodies" at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at the National Taiwan Arts Education Hall. This program is co-sponsored by the American Institute in Taiwan in conjunction with the National Taiwan Arts Education Institute and the Dallas Chinese Philharmonic Association. The National Taiwan Arts Education Hall is located at No. 47 Nan Hai, Road, Taipei.

Members of the North America Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO) will perform at the concert. As part of its 1999 International Concert Tour, the group will come to Taiwan in early July and perform at the National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on Independence Day July 4 and at the Taichung Chungshan Hall on July 5. Before coming to Taiwan, they will visit Los Angeles and San Jose in California and will be going to Singapore June 28.

The NAEYO, founded in April 1995, is made up of high school-aged Chinese-American musicians who have been especially selected to participate in this exchange program. David Wong is their conductor and the founder and executive director of the NAEYO and the Dallas Chinese Philharmonic Association. The music played by the NAEYO combines the Western and Chinese traditions.

At the July 7 program at the National Taiwan Arts Education Hall, they will play Chinese and Taiwanese folk songs as well as "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie "Titanic" and the theme song of "Mulan."
