U.S. Trade Development Agency Announces Taiwan Trade Delegation Visit

PR9913E | Date: 1999-03-04

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) issued a press release announcing a Taiwan delegation visit to the United States. This group of public and private sector technology and computer executives will visit Taiwan from March 9th to 21st, 1999, in order to obtain first-hand information on the latest technology in use for business-to-business electronic commerce and supply chain management. The visit will include meetings in Washington D.C., Memphis, San Jose, as well as attendance to the National Manufacturing Show in Chicago.

The visit is sponsored by the USTDA, as part of its program to introduce U.S. technology and equipment to public and private firms actively seeking to meet suppliers and acquire technology and equipment. Agland Investment Services, Inc., an international development consultant to the USTDA, and The Commonwealth Club of California, the national leading public affairs forum, have been asked to lead and coordinate this visit.

The focus of the orientation visit is to meet software, hardware, and service providers involved in the automation and digitizing of manufacturing, distribution, and sales processes. Taiwan aims to introduce this technology in both large and medium size enterprises. Taiwan was first introduced to this concept through CALS (Continuous Acquisition and Life-Cycle Support) technology originated by the U.S. military with their suppliers.

The itinerary of the orientation visit is:

Washington, D.C./Fairfax, Virginia March 9-12
Memphis, Tennessee March 13-14
Chicago, Illinois March 15-17
San Jose, California March 18-21

In addition to attending the National Manufacturing Show in Chicago, the group will meet with companies and consultants in the sector, as well as meet with companies that are implementing and utilizing business-to-business commerce to simplify and increase the efficiency of their organizations.

A business briefing will be held in San Jose, California, on March 18, 1999, for firms interested in meeting the delegates and learning more about their projects and procurements.
