American Culture and Music Series: "A Brief History of American Musical Theater and Its Reflection of American Culture" by Dr. Jeannie Woods

The American Institute in Taiwan Cultural and Information Section will present a lecture titled "A Brief History of American Musical Theater and Its Reflection of American Culture" at 7:00 pm Friday, February 26, 1999, at the American Cultural Center Auditorium (54 Nan Hai Road, Taipei).

The speaker will be Dr. Jeannie Woods, Visiting Fulbright Scholar, National Institute of the Arts, Taipei. Dr. Woods is currently on leave from her position as Associate Professor of Theater, Winthrop University, South Carolina. An actor, stage director, and author, she is also artistic director of the New Stage Ensemble Theater Company.

The program will be presented in English with Chinese translation. To accompany the lecture, Dr. Woods will offer video clips of American musical plays and well-known songs from Broadway shows.

The program is one in a series presented by the American Cultural Center introducing various aspects of American music.

A book display at the program will introduce materials from the American Resource Center concerning American studies, theater, arts and music, history, literature, society and culture. Complimentary copies of magazines and pamphlets about American studies and culture will be available.
