The American Cultural Center will showcase "Chinese Modern Water Color Paintings By Cecilia C. Chiang," from March 20 - April 2, 1998. The American Cultural Center Auditorium is open to the public from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays. The American Cultural Center is located at 54 Nan Hai Road, Taipei.
The exhibition consists of more than thirty paintings and ceramic works by the Chinese-American artist Cecilia C. Chiang. Ms. Chiang did not receive academic training in art. She began painting in the 1970s because her husband, Professor I-han Chiang, is a professional painter who encouraged her interest in art.

She was a history major in her undergraduate and graduate studies, and for many years has taught Chinese in the United States.

She has held more than ten solo exhibitions and taken part in several group shows in the last 20 years. She says every exhibition has brought her new inspiration and encouragement.

In describing her art, Ms. Chiang says she does not try to achieve perfection, as that goal is impossible. Instead, she seeks to express her intuition and ideas in painting. She does not concern herself with art theory or traditional techniques of painting, though she has been studying them on her own for years.

The subject matter of Ms. Chiang's art includes daily scenes, landscape, people, flowers, birds, and animals, any of which may have evoked an emotional reaction in the artist. Her own favorites among her work are "Moonlit Night," "Dream of a Lotus Flower Pond," and "Full of Joy."
