The Spring 1998 American Education Fair will be held from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Ambassador Hotel in Kaohsiung, and from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Lai Lai Sheraton Hotel in Taipei.
The American Education Fair is co-organized by the American Institute in Taiwan and International Education Fair, a non-profit corporation based in California dedicated to assisting Taiwan students who wish to study in the United States.
American colleges, universities, secondary schools, and language institutes will take part in the American Education Fair. Each school will send a representative to the fair who will be available to talk to interested students who wish to learn more about what each school has to offer and how to apply for enrollment.
In addition to the school representatives' student advising services, the Taipei fair will feature a symposium from 10 a.m. until noon. Topics will include the American education system, choosing a school in the U.S., adjusting to life on an American campus, the U.S. student visa application process, and other useful information for students.
Currently, about 30,500 Taiwan students are enrolled in American colleges and universities. The American Institute in Taiwan issued 14,042 student visas in 1997, a 4 percent increase over 1996 student visa figures.
