U.S., Taiwan Hold WTO Negotiations

U.S. and Taiwan negotiators meet in Washington the week of December 15 to continue bilateral negotiations on Taiwan's accession to the World Trade Organization. The U.S. delegation is led by Mr. Raymond Sander of the Washington headquarters of the American Institute in Taiwan. The negotiations will be the 16th round of bilateral talks aimed at Taiwan's accession to the WTO and follow close on the heels of a similar round held in Taipei in mid-October. Issues on the agenda include the timing and scope of tariff reductions, Taiwan's government procurement regime, automobile trade issues, and a number of WTO protocol issues.
