American Cultural Center to Sponsor Lectures on American Music and Culture in September
The Chinese (Taipei) Association of Music Education, the Chinese (Taipei) Association of Ethnomusicology, and the American Cultural Center announce the first of two co-sponsored programs on American music and culture in September. The first program features a lecture by Dr. Chao Chin, Supervisor/Producer, Broadcasting Corporation of China (BCC).
Dr. Chao's topic will be "Exploring and Rethinking American Music Toward the End of the 20th Century: U.S. Music Communication and Popular Music." The program will take place at the American Cultural Center between 7:00-9:00 p.m. on September 12, Friday. The address of the American Cultural Center is 54 Nanhai Road, Taipei.
Dr. Chao graduated from the Department of Music Education, National Taiwan Normal University, and holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of California at Loa Angeles. In 1996, she won the Council of Cultural Affairs Outstanding Music/Arts Prize and participated in the U.S. Information Agency Voluntary Visitor program, traveling to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York to study U.S. trends in music education, popular music, and arts festivals.
The lectures will be free of charge and open to the public. Faculty members and students in local academic communities in the fields of music, arts and literature, history, cultural studies, English teaching, and American studies are especially welcome to attend.
