AIT Announces New Payment System for All Visa Applicants Beginning December 1, 1996

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announces that it is extending the postal remittance account payment system to all visa applicants beginning December 1, 1996. The postal remittance method of payment has already been in operation for several months for group travel and student visa applicants, and has resulted in greater efficiency in visa processing and shorter waiting lines for visa interviews.

Effective December 1, 1996, all applicants for visas at AIT, both in Taipei and Kaohsiung, will need to pay the NT$750 visa processing fee into AIT's postal remittance account prior to their interview. The fee should be deposited into account #18780412. The account name is "AIT Visa Processing Fee." Applicants should then simply present their postal receipt to AIT at the time of the visa application to verify payment. After December 1, AIT will no longer accept the visa processing fee in cash.

Applicants may wish to seek the assistance of their travel agent to effect visa fee payment in advance. Alternatively, individual applicants can pay the visa processing fee into AIT's postal remittance account at any post office branch in Taiwan. For those who arrive at AIT Taipei without having made advance payment arrangements, there is a post office located near AIT at #89 Hsin Yi Rd., Sec. 3, Taipei, which is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The nearest post office to the AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office is located at #104, Chi-Hsien 1st Road, Kaohsiung, and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
