United States and Taiwan Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council Meeting

The United States welcomes Taiwan trade authorities to Washington, D.C., on October 4, 2016, for the tenth Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting under the auspices of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO).

The TIFA is the primary mechanism for dialogue on trade between the United States and Taiwan authorities, and provides an opportunity for both sides to discuss how to expand trade and investment links and deepen cooperation.

The TIFA Council meeting will be led by Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Holleyman and Taiwan’s Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua. Other U.S. agencies participating in the talks include the Departments of State, Agriculture, Commerce, and AIT.

The annual TIFA Council meeting is critical to strengthening the United States’ robust commercial ties with Taiwan and covers the broad range of trade and investment issues important to stakeholders in the U.S. and Taiwan.

The discussions will cover a full range of priority issues to improve U.S.-Taiwan trade and investment ties, including intellectual property rights protection, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, investment, agriculture, and technical barriers to trade.
