Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days in Taipei Commemorates 15th Anniversary of 9/11
PR-1643E | Date: 08/31/2016
The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to co-sponsor the 2016 Daniel Pearl World Music Day (DPMD) on September 10, 2016. This year at Daniel Pearl World Music Day, AIT will join the international community to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The 2016 Daniel Pearl World Music Day in Taipei features a series of free outdoor concerts and events that will take place on Saturday, September 10 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Taipei Hakka Cultural Park (No.2, Section 3, Tingzhou Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei).
The concert will include live performances on two outdoor stages by 12 music groups comprised of local and foreign musicians. The groups offer a variety of musical genres, including fusion jazz, bluegrass, R&B, country, rock & roll, funk and reggae. This year for the first time, Taipei’s Daniel Pearl World Music Day incorporates the Drifting Circus Project, comprised of musicians, acrobats, clowns, jugglers, actors and magicians. They will bring their acts into the audience to share, express, and inspire. In addition to the music and circus show, many local restaurants will be at the day-long event serving food and drink. AIT Consular staff will provide absentee voting information for American Citizens and collect completed voter registration forms at a designated voter registration booth. A number of NGOs and community-based organizations will also attend.
A moment of silence will be held by AIT Director Kin Moy to mark the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The Director will also offer welcome remarks.
Since its beginning, Daniel Pearl Music Days has grown internationally to include more than 13,900 performances around the world harnessing the power of music to promote “Harmony for Humanity.” Taipei was one of the first cities to participate in this event.
An accomplished journalist and musician, Daniel Pearl died tragically in 2002 at the hands of terrorists while serving as the South Asia Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal. To celebrate his life, Pearl's musician friends came together in 2002 to launch the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an event that has led to annual worldwide concerts in September and October memorializing Pearl and spreading a message of tolerance, hope, and humanity.
