The Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) invites the media to observe the preliminary competition of the United Tastes of America - Asian Chef Challenge II on November 16 at the Taipei Kaiping Culinary School to crown the best chef in Taiwan. The chef challenge is rolling out across Asia, and winning teams from Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, and many other Chinese metropolitan cities will face off for the championship March 2016 in Tokyo at the Hattori Nutrition College.

Sixteen teams will battle on November 16 at Taipei’s preliminary competition to be crowned best chef in Taiwan and have the opportunity to compete in Japan at the final competition. Many chefs are from renowned hotels, restaurants, and culinary institutes across Taiwan, including chefs from: Fullon Hotel & Resorts Hualien, Taichung Harbor Hotel, SQUARE Pizza al Taglio, Huang Ping Zheng Foods Co., Kaiping Culinary School, C’est La vie, Ambassador Hotel, Le Blé d'Or, Lan Yang Institute of Technology, Creative Cuisine, HANA Teppanyaki, SHINYEH Dining, WuHsieh Lab, Evergreen Laurel Hotel Taichung, Cin Cin Osteria, and PALAIS de CHINE.

At Taipei's preliminary competition, contestants are required to fully utilize an assortment of mandatory high-quality U.S. ingredients and develop a creative four-course menu. More than 60 unique dishes will be showcased throughout the competition.

AIT's Agriculture Trade Office (ATO) serves as advisor for the United Tastes of America - Asian Chef Challenge, which is organized by the U.S. Meat Export Association and sponsored by many other U.S. agricultural producer associations, including: California Agricultural Export Council, California Milk Advisory Board, California Raisin Administrative Committee, California Table Grape Commission, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of Trade and Investment, Ginseng Board of Wisconsin, Idaho Potato Commission, Pomegranate Council, U.S. Grains Council, USA Poultry & Egg Export Council, U.S. Potato Board, U.S. High-bush Blueberry Council, U.S. Meat Export Federation, and USA Rice Federation. The launch of the regional chef challenge underscores the significance of the Asian market for U.S. agricultural exports, and participating markets hold a significant market share (47%) of U.S. agricultural exports.
