AIT Mourns Death of Former AIT Chairman Natale Bellocchi

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) mourns the November 17 passing of Natale Bellocchi, who served as the Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of AIT from 1990-1995.

Born in New York on July 5, 1926, Mr. Bellocchi had a long and distinguished career of service to the United States of America. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1953, and then entered the United States Foreign Service in 1955. He was appointed as Ambassador to the Republic of Botswana in 1985. His other postings included Hong Kong, Laos, India, Vietnam, and Taiwan. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of AIT from 1990-1995. He received Bachelor of Science degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1948 and Georgetown University in 1954.

Mr. Bellocchi leaves behind his wife, Lilan Liu, who is originally from Taiwan. They have two children.
