Robert C. DeWitt Assumes Duties as Chief of AIT's Kaohsiung Branch Office

Robert C. “Bob” DeWitt began his tenure as Chief of the Kaohsiung Branch Office of the American Institute in Taiwan on July 28, 2014.

From July 2009 to May of this year, Bob was the first Director of the Minneapolis Passport Agency. As Director, he oversaw U.S. passport production, fraud prevention, and customer service initiatives in the Minneapolis Region, which is comprised of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Bob also served as Chairman of the Minnesota Federal Executive Board for FY2013.

Bob has been a Foreign Service Officer for over 22 years. He has served at U.S. embassies or consulates in Shanghai, China; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Beijing, China; Dar es Salam, Tanzania; Shenyang, China; Kampala, Uganda; Mogadishu, Somalia; and Quito, Ecuador. He was an instructor at the Foreign Service Institute’s Consular Training Division, and worked in the Post Analysis Division in the Executive Office of the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Bob graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese and Asian studies. He also holds a Master’s Degree in East Asian Studies from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the National University of Singapore, and completed further graduate studies in Chinese at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Bob and his wife Gloria, an R.N., have been married 33 years. They have two adult children and four grandchildren. Both Bob and Gloria served two-year missions for their church in Taiwan during the mid-1970’s, spending much of their time in Kaohsiung. They’re both pleased to be back in the city.
