U.S. Official to Meet with U.S. and Taiwan Business Community

Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez Visit to Taiwan, October 30 – November 1, 2012
Francisco Sánchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce, will visit Taipei from October 30-November 1, 2012. He is visiting Asia to promote President Obama’s National Travel and Tourism Strategy and the National Export Initiative, which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014. He will highlight the many opportunities for Taiwan investors in the United States through the newly executed SelectUSA initiative.
During his stay in Taiwan, Under Secretary Sánchez will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou, other Taiwan authorities, and local business leaders.
On October 31, Under Secretary Sánchez is scheduled to deliver the key note speech at a luncheon for members of the business community in Taiwan. He will also give remarks at a reception hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in honor of Taiwan’s inclusion into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.
Under Secretary Sánchez leads the International Trade Administration, whose mission is to promote fair trade in the global economy; create jobs and economic growth by promoting U.S. companies and products; strengthen American competitiveness across all industries; address market access and compliance issues; administer U.S. trade laws; and undertakes a range of trade promotion and trade advocacy efforts.
Prior to his joining the Obama administration in 2010, Mr. Sánchez spent over twenty years in the private sector, as well as in public service as an advisor on international affairs and policy issues. Mr. Sánchez was named one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business Magazine and also one of the top Hispanics nationwide by Poder Magazine.
