The American Institute in Taiwan and the EducationUSA Advising Centers in Taiwan will celebrate International Education Week with a range of activities that promote study in the United States.

From November 16 - 20, 2009, the AIT American Cultural Center and the EducationUSA Advising Centers in Taiwan will jointly sponsor events for both students and parents.  The week's activities involve current U.S. Fulbright scholars, AIT officers and admissions officers from top-ranked U.S. universities.

AIT's International Education Week activities include:

  • A web chat with admissions officers from the Yale University School of Management, Columbia University Business School and Babson College F. W. Olin School of Business.  The web chat is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, from 9:30 - 11:00 p.m.
  • Student-centered programs focused on understanding the application process, applying for a student visa, and student loans.  These presentations will be held on Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange.
  • Public lectures by EducationUSA advisers at the Taichung American Corner on Wednesday, November 18 and the Kaohsiung American Corner on Tuesday, November 17.

International Education Week aims to celebrate the positive impact of international educational exchange on the United States and the world.  It is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to highlight the benefits of studying abroad for Americans and to attract international students to study in the United States and gain a better understanding of American society and values.  Education is an important link between the United States and Taiwan: At present, there are nearly 30,000 students from Taiwan in the United States, and over twenty members of Taiwan's cabinet pursued higher studies in the United States.

AIT is pleased to work with two U.S. State Department-affiliated EducationUSA centers in Taiwan -- the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (www. ustudy.org.tw) and AIEF (http://www.aief.org.tw/).  These two EducationUSA Centers offer accurate, comprehensive, objective and timely information about educational opportunities in the United States, and provide guidance on how best to access those opportunities.
