U.S. FEMA Official Visiting Taiwan to Discuss Disaster Preparedness

Timothy Manning, Deputy Administrator of the National Preparedness Directorate at the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, is visiting Taiwan through September 20.  He and other international experts are sharing lessons learned in emergency preparedness and recovery from disasters in the United States, Japan, and from Taiwan's 9/21 earthquake and Typhoon Morakot. 

Mr. Manning will give a keynote speech, entitled "Partnerships in Preparedness: A Look at Disaster Preparedness Cooperation in the United States," at the International Conference in Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 1999 Chi-Chi Earthquake, sponsored by the National Science Council and others.   Additionally, he is expected to meet with officials from Taiwan's National Disaster Prevention and Protection Commission, the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, the Emergency Operation Center of Taipei City, and the Executive Yuan.

The National Preparedness Directorate is charged with providing guidance, programs, activities and services to prepare the United States to prevent, protect from, respond to and recover from hazards.
