AIT and TECRO Sign Port Air Quality Partnership

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) signed a Port Air Quality Partnership Declaration on November 20, 2008 on the occasion of a Port Air Quality Partnership Conference in Keelung.
Through the partnership, AIT and TECRO agreed to work through their designated representatives, the Port of Tacoma and the Harbor Bureaus of Kaohsiung, Taipei and Keelung. The partnership, in cooperation with the public and private sectors and in accordance with their respective internal requirements, will work to reduce emissions from ocean-going vessels, port operations, cargo handling equipment, and land-based transportation serving marine ports. In addition, the partnership will promote the use of renewable and cleaner energies.
With this declaration, AIT and TECRO agreed on behalf of their designated representatives to cooperate in efforts to achieve cleaner ports by sharing information on best practices and cooperating in the development of improved technologies and methods that can achieve air quality improvements in the territories represented by AIT and TECRO. This cooperation will further a joint vision for sustainable and healthy shipping and ports.
