AIT Mourns Death of Former AIT Director Charles T. Cross

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) notes the passing of Charles T. Cross, who served as the first Director of AIT, on November 2, 2008 in Washington State.

Born in 1922 in Beijing of American missionary parents, he had a long and distinguished career of service to the United States of America, including service in the U.S. Marines in World War II and many years with the U.S. Department of State, serving ultimately as Ambassador to Singapore and U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong. 

He was appointed as AIT's first Director in 1979 and held that position until 1981.The American Institute in Taiwan mourns his passing and extends its condolences to his family.
