AIT Sponsors a Blood Drive
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) participated in its first-ever employee-initiated blood drive on Thursday, July 31, 2008, to help increase blood inventory in Taipei.
A Taipei Blood Center bus was stationed on the AIT compound from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and collected blood from about 60 volunteer donors.
"As a member of the community here in Taiwan, we are happy to sponsor this blood drive to help those who are in need of blood transfusions," said AIT Director Stephen Young. "We also hope to encourage more people to become blood donors."
Taipei's blood inventory tends to drop during the summer, and the city is critically low on type O and type A blood, according to the Taipei Blood Center.
