USA Pavilion - Food Taipei 2008 Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall June 18-21, 2008

PR0837E | Date: 2008-06-13

The American Institute in Taiwan's Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) is proud to announce an exciting USA Pavilion at the 2008 Taipei International Food Show, including a fully equipped "American Kitchen" with continuous chef demonstrations featuring U.S. ingredients.

The Southern U.S. Trade Association (SUSTA) will bring Chef George Kaslow from the John Folse Culinary Institute in Louisiana to lead the chef demonstrations at the American Kitchen.  Twelve other celebrity chefs from Taiwan, who recently returned from a two week long chef training program sponsored by SUSTA at the John Folse Culinary Institute, will also demonstrate their new skills each afternoon during the food show at the American Kitchen!

The American Kitchen will provide a great opportunity for Taiwan gourmands to learn more about the latest culinary trends in the United States and introduce them to a wide variety of healthy American ingredients including U.S. beef, pork, poultry, fresh oysters, a variety of spicy sauces and seasonings, Cornish rock hens, Louisiana crawfish, Georgia "Vidalia" onions, pecan pies and a wide variety of other ingredients used in American Southern-style cooking.  The Taiwan Formosa Chefs Association (TFCA) will coordinate the demonstrations with their members, and each morning Chef Kaslow will provide mini-seminars for a select group of commercial chefs.  The chef demonstration schedule will be posted on our website in the near future at:  www.usfoodtaiwan.org

This year, the USA Pavilion will consist of 23 U.S. companies and associations exhibiting a wide variety of products.  The ATO will host a small ceremony to launch the USA Pavilion with a dedication of an "American Eagle" ice sculpture by the TFCA on June 18 at 1:00 pm.  Chef Kaslow will also perform a short demonstration highlighting his Southern-style cooking skills.

The American Institute in Taiwan warmly invites Taiwan food industry executives, importers, retailers, and media representatives to visit the USA Pavilion to sample healthy, new food and beverage products, observe the continuous chef demonstrations at the American Kitchen, and to take advantage of our business center to make new contacts.  This event is your chance to preview what will be seen on grocers' shelves, on restaurant menus and in manufactured food products in the near future.  Please stop by and see us!

During the week of June 23, the ATO and SUSTA will launch menu promotions at the Sherwood Hotel Taipei and Splendor Hotel Kaohsiung followed by retail promotions at 10 Mitsukoshi Department stores around the island.  The promotion will feature healthy American food and beverage products and run for one month.  Hotel vacation packages and Northwest Airline round trip tickets will be given away with a lucky draw that will take place on ICRT radio on August 1, 2008.

Taiwan is the sixth largest market in the world for U.S. agricultural products.  In 2007, Taiwan imported more than $3.5 billion worth of agricultural products from the United States.  It is a relationship in which both sides benefit significantly, and a partnership that we look forward to continuing and growing over the long term.
