Prominent American Ballet Artistry Featured at 2008 International Ballet Star Gala in Taipei

The American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to announce that two renowned American ballet troupes will be represented in Taipei along with seven other world-famous ballet theaters from five countries on June 20 and 21 at the National Theater in Taipei in the International Ballet Star Gala.

Following its success in 2007, the International Ballet Star Gala returns to Taipei in June and will bring 14 eminent ballet artists from around the world to present a mixture of classical and contemporary ballet pieces. 

Yuan-yuan Tan, an American citizen originally from China and the principal dancer of the San Francisco Ballet, will render her exquisite and unique skills in Giselle Pas de Deux and Magrittomania in the International Ballet Star Gala.  Born in Shanghai, Ms. Tan received professional ballet training in China, Germany and the U.S.  Yuan-yuan Tan has won countless awards and performed in more than 20 countries around the world.

The San Francisco Ballet, founded in 1933, is the oldest professional ballet company in the United States.  It enjoys an international reputation as one of the preeminent U.S. ballet companies and presents more than 100 performances each year, both locally and internationally.   The other U.S. ballet company represented, the American Ballet Theatre, is the largest ballet company in the U.S. and has been sponsored by the U.S. State Department for many international engagements.
