AIT Holds American Studies Symposium and Mock U.S. Presidential Debate

The American Institute in Taiwan, in cooperation with Tamkang University's Graduate Institute of American Studies, will hold an American Studies Symposium on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 1:00 - 5:30 at Tamkang University (downtown campus) located at the Alumni Conference Room, 5th Floor, 5, Lane 199, Kinghua Street, Taipei. 

Kerry Dumbaugh, Specialist in Asian Affairs, Congressional Research Service, The Library of Congress, will speak on "U.S.-Taiwan Relations in Changing Political Times."  Dr. Stephen H. Sumida, Professor of American Ethnic Studies, University of Washington will speak on "American Studies Trends in Asia." 

From 4:00-5:30 p.m., students from three local universities will compete for a NT$10,000 prize in an exciting Mock U.S. Presidential Debate at the same venue.  The mock debate features students from Tamkang University as Team Obama, National Chengchi University as Team Clinton, and National Tsinghua University as Team McCain.
