U.S. Tax Forms and Tax Information
The American Institute in Taiwan now has copies of the most frequently used federal income tax forms. Persons who owe federal income taxes for 2007 may pick up the forms at AIT Taipei's American Citizen Services office Monday through Friday, from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m.
AIT's Taipei office is closed to the public on the first business day of each month and on all U.S. and Taiwan holidays. Please check the AIT website at http://www.ait.org.tw/en/ for updates on holidays and public hours.
Information and forms for overseas taxpayers can be found on the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov. Information is also available on 24-hour IRS hotlines. (Dial 002-1-800-829-1040 for individuals, or 002-1-800-829-4933 for businesses. These numbers are accessible from Taiwan, but international calling rates apply.)
For tax filing purposes, the 2007 U.S. Treasury reporting rate of exchange for Taiwan is NT$32.254 = US$1.00.
IRS tax assistors will no longer visit AIT. The IRS has limited resources and has brought overseas assistance programs in line with existing assistance and outreach programs provided throughout the United States. Please utilize the information available from the IRS online and by telephone to assist you with your tax preparation.
