The film Nanking, a U.S. produced documentary that tells the story of the Japanese invasion of Nanjing, China during the early days of World War II, will premier in Taiwan theaters on Nov. 30, 2007.
Produced by former AOL Vice Chairman Ted Leonsis and directed by Academy Award winners Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman, the Taipei release of Nanking comes just before the 70th anniversary of this indelible December 1937 event.
The film features archival footage and photos of the events, interviews with Chinese survivors, testimony of former Japanese solders, and accounts of the small group of Westerners who established a Safety Zone where more than 200,000 Chinese found refuge.
The film won the documentary editing award at this year's Sundance Film Festival as well as the Humanitarian Award at the Hong Kong Film Festival. It premiered in Beijing, China, in July of this year. In Taiwan, the movie is distributed by Khan Entertainment, a subsidiary of Zeus International Production Ltd. Co.
American directors Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman will be in Taipei to attend the Taipei Golden Horse Festival to present their film on November 28 and November 29 for two screenings and seminars afterwards on the movie.
