AIT Co-Organizes Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation Forum on Responsible Media in Democracy

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is pleased to be one of the co-organizers of the Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation's Taipei Salon entitled "Responsible Media in Democracy" on Saturday, September 8, 2007, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Yue-han Hall, 110 Jinhua Street, Taipei.

The program features Doreen Weisenhaus, the Director of the Media Law Project in the University of Hong Kong.  Before moving to Hong Kong in 2000, she was city editor of The New York Times Magazine.   Weisenhaus was also editor-in-chief of the National Law Journal and a prosecutor in New York City.  She will share her insights on media ethics and the complex relationship between press freedom, democracy, and responsible media with the Taiwan audience.

Hsu Lu, Chief Executive Officer of Chunghwa Telecom Foundation and a veteran journalist, will join Weisenhaus for the discussion.

Thomas Hodges, Chief of Public Affairs Section and Spokesman of AIT, will moderate the discussion.
