AIT Director Stephen M. Young to Honor Two Southern Taiwan Companies during AIT/Kaohsiung "Importer of the Year" Award Ceremony

PR0720E | Date: 2007-04-16

The Commercial Section of the American Institute in Taiwan, Kaohsiung Branch Office will host its first annual Importer of the Year Award Ceremony on April 20, 2007.   During the ceremony, AIT Director Stephen M. Young will honor two southern Taiwan companies for their positive contribution to U.S.-Taiwan trade.  Award recipients will include Tainan-based IEKAIL Inc. and Kaohsiung-based Youngtec Systems, Co., Ltd.

According to AIT/Kaohsiung Commercial Section Chief, Janee Pierre-Louis, "These award winners are illustrative of the small/medium sized companies that drive the trade relationship between the United States and Taiwan, and make this market very attractive for US exporters."

In 2006, two-way trade between the United States and Taiwan reached $55 billion.  As the eighth largest trading partner of the United States, Taiwan purchased $22.6 billion of U.S. goods and services ranging from electronics, industrial chemicals/plastics, and computer software/services to education, medical devices, and household consumer goods.

AIT's Commercial Section offers many free services to local Taiwan companies seeking US suppliers and opportunities to represent/distribute US products in Taiwan.  Interested southern Taiwan companies are encouraged to contact AIT/Kaohsiung's Commercial Section for specific details.

Members of the media and business community are more than welcome to attend the ceremony and should confirm attendance with Ms. Daphne Fan, at Tel: (07) 238-7744 ext. 620 or E-mail: Daphne.Fan@mail.doc.gov.
