American Institute in Taiwan

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) is honored to present Landmarks of New York, an exhibit of photographs and texts depicting outstanding New York City landmarks, at the National Taiwan Museum from July 27 through September 11, 2006, to mark the 40th anniversary of the enactment of the New York Landmark Preservation Act.

This exhibit consists of 81 black and white photographs which portray buildings ranging from iconic office skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building to the New York Public Library and the Ellis Island Immigration Center.  Through these photographs, the viewer is able to see a snapshot of the transition and history of New York from the 1640s up to the present day.

AIT's Public Affairs Section is organizing a number of events around the exhibit to help the public to better understand life in New York City.  These events include three education lectures at the National Taiwan Museum:

• "Architectural Studies", 2:00-3:30 p.m., July 29
• "Studying and Living in New York City", 2:00-3:30 p.m., August 5
• "Art and Culture in New York", 2:00-3:30 p.m., August 12

Taipei is the second Asian stop of the Landmarks of New York exhibit, which is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with the Historic Landmarks Preservation Center of New York.  The exhibit will travel to 45 countries and areas of the world.  In Taiwan, the exhibition is organized by AIT and the National Taiwan Museum. 

The National Taiwan Museum, located at No. 2, Siangyang Road, Taipei, is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.   Admission is NT$20 for adults and NT$10 for students with IDs.
