Arrival Announcement Raymond F. Burghardt Chairman of the Board American Institute in Taiwan

Raymond F. Burghardt, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), arrived in Taipei Wednesday evening, June 7, 2006.
This is Mr. Burghardt's first trip to Taiwan since his appointment as AIT's chairman in February of this year. During the several days he is in Taiwan, he will meet with members of the AIT staff who represent the broad range of American interests in Taiwan, as well as a wide variety of their Taiwan counterparts. He plans to meet with members of the Taiwan and American business communities as well.
Mr. Burghardt was the director of the American Institute in Taiwan's Taipei office from 1999 to 2001. His distinguished career in public service included assignments as the U.S. ambassador to Vietnam and as the U.S. consul general in Shanghai, as well as at U.S. embassies in Asia and Latin America. In Washington, he served on the staff of the National Security Council. He is currently the Director of East-West Seminars at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, a position he will continue to hold concurrently while chairman of the board of the American Institute in Taiwan.
