AIT Announcement on Filing 2005 U.S. Taxes
The American Institute in Taiwan now has copies of the most frequently used U.S. tax forms. You may pick them up at AIT's Taipei office Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The AIT Taipei office is closed to the public the first business day of each month and all U.S. and Taiwan holidays. Please check our website at http://www.ait.org.tw/en/ for updates on holidays and public hours.
Information for overseas U.S. taxpayers can also be obtained by calling an IRS hotline in the U. S. at 1-800-829-1040 (for individuals) or 1-800-829-4933 ( for businesses). Many forms are available directly from the IRS website at www.irs.gov. For tax filing purposes, the 2005 U.S. Treasury reporting rate of exchange for Taiwan is NT$31.98 = U.S.$1.00.
A U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax assistor will not be visiting AIT in 2006. The IRS has limited resources and availability and is trying to bring overseas assistance programs in line with existing assistance and outreach programs provided throughout the United States. Please utilize the information available at AIT and online to assist you with your tax preparation.
