AIT Presents DVC Program On Native American Indians and the U.S. Media

In celebration of Native American Indian Heritage Month, AIT's American Cultural Center will host a Digital Video Conference program entitled "Developments in media relations for U.S. aborigines" about Native American Indians and the media.

Speaker:  Mark Anthony Rolo, Guest lecturer, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Mark Anthony Rolo is an enrolled member of the Bad River Band of Ojibwe of Wisconsin.   He is the former Executive Director of the Native American Journalists Association, whose membership includes tribal news media and mainstream journalists in the US and Canada.  He edited the second edition of "The American Indian and the Media", a collection of essays from Native American journalists on issues in Indian Country, including a guide section for non-Native journalists covering American Indian affairs.

Mr. Rolo is the former editor of Circle, a monthly Native American newspaper based in Minneapolis.  He is also the former Washington Bureau Chief for Indian Country Today.  His commentaries on Native American issues have appeared in numerous newspapers.  Mr. Rolo is the on-camera host and writer for an upcoming PBS documentary, "A Seat at the Drum," which explores the lives of Native Americans living in Los Angeles.
