New AIT American Cultural Center Director, Nicholas Papp, Takes up His Duties
Nicholas Papp took up his duties August 26, 2005, as the Cultural Affairs Officer for the Public Affairs Section of The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and will concurrently serve as the Director of the American Cultural Center. He has arrived in Taiwan after undertaking ten months of Mandarin Chinese studies in Washington, DC.
A native of Trumbull, Connecticut, Mr. Papp joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1999. While overseas with the Department of State, he has served as the Deputy Press Attache in Bangkok, Thailand (2002-2004), and as a Consular Officer in Abu Dhabi, UAE (1999-2001). Mr. Papp is the recipient of two Department of State Meritorious Honor Awards.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Papp spent fifteen years in the U.S. financial services industry. He holds a B.A. from Cornell University in Government and Economics, and a M.B.A. from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management. He speaks Chinese, Thai, and French. His interests include health and fitness, travel, jazz music, and American architectural history.
