AIT and TECRO Sign Lease for New AIT Building Site in Neihu

American Institute in Taiwan Director Douglas H. Paal and Headquarters for Taipei Economic Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. (TECRO) Director General John Chen today signed a 99-year lease for land in Neihu on which AIT plans to build a new office building. Signing as witnesses in the ceremony were AIT's Deputy Director David J. Keegan and TECRO Deputy Director General Jacqueline Liu. Foreign Minister Mark Chen was also in attendance.
The American Institute in Taiwan was established by the Taiwan Relations Act to manage the unofficial relations of the United States with the people of Taiwan. It has offices in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
The current downtown location of AIT/Taipei is a 50-year old building. The new building is currently being designed and AIT looks forward to breaking ground within the next few years.
