"After September 11: Images from Ground Zero" Photo Exhibition Now on Display at Tamkang University

The "After September 11: Images from Ground Zero" photography exhibition is on display now at the Tamkang University Art Center. This is the twelfth stop of the exhibition since it was first launched at the new American Cultural Center on July 5, 2002. An opening reception is scheduled on September 10, the eve of the second anniversary of the September 11 tragedy.

"After September 11" features 27 photographs by New York photographer Joel Meyerowitz, who was granted sole unimpeded access to "ground zero" on September 13, 2001, just two days after the September 11 attacks. Though the events that inspired the exhibit happened two years ago, they truly changed the world. One can appreciate the artist's vision even more profoundly through the lens of the new situation in the world today.

Meyerowitz, winner of a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, said his aim was "to make a photographic record of the aftermath: the awesome spectacle of destruction; the reverence for the dead; the steadfast, painstaking effort of recovery; the life of those whose act of salvation has embedded itself deeply into the consciousness of all of us in America and around the world."

The public is welcome to view the show at Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, Tamkang University, Tamsui, through October 19. The Center is opened 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day except Saturday.
