"After September 11: Images from Ground Zero" Photo Exhibition Comes to Kaohsiung September 11 - October 6, 2002

To commemorate the first anniversary of the horrendous attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2001, the American Institute in Taiwan and the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will open "After September 11: Images from Ground Zero," a photo exhibition by Joel Meyerowitz. AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief Robert Forden and other local dignitaries will preside over an opening ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on September 11 at the main entrance hall of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. This exhibition will be shown in the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts from September 11 to October 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This exhibit features 27 photographs by New York photographer Joel Meyerowitz.
They were chosen from among 5,000 that Meyerowitz, winner of a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, took as the only photographer allowed to have unimpeded access to Ground Zero just two days after the September 11 attacks. The photos offer a stunning reflection of the attacks on the U.S. and the reaction of the American people in human terms and can be appreciated from an artistic, photojournalism or global issue perspective.

Kaohsiung is a part of a three-year, worldwide tour of this exhibition. The opening in Kaohsiung follows a successful debut in Taipei and a showing in Tainan earlier this year. To date more than 70 cities have seen the exhibition, and it will have been seen in 110 cities by December 2002. Following its appearance in Kaohsiung, the exhibit is scheduled to be on display in Chungli, Hsinchu, Fengyuan, Taichung and Keelung and other cities.
