AIT Co-Sponsors American Voices Performances of "America on Broadway" December 1 and 2, 2001

As part of its continuing Cultural Diversity Series, the American Institute in Taiwan is proud to work with the Taipei National University of Arts and National Sun Yat-sen University in presenting American Voices soprano Kathryn Magestro and pianist John Ferguson in songs reflecting the ethnic roots of American music.

The performances will include works by such composers as Harold Arlen, of Polish-Jewish ancestry, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin, whose origins are Jewish-Russian, Eubie Blake, African-American, Frank Loesser, Prussian-Bohemian, as well as Kurt Weill, a German immigrant. The works of other famous American composers of various European origins - Zez Confrey, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim - are also included.

American Voices is a non-profit American music organization established in 1992. Its goal is to provide local audiences and young musicians an opportunity to experience performances that reflect America’s diverse culture and to further their understanding of American music.
