AIT Statement on Terrorist Attacks in U.S.
The American Institute in Taiwan joins President Bush, the Congress and all departments of the U.S. government in condemning the series of deadly terrorists attacks on New York and Washington. There is no known threat to American citizens and facilities in Taiwan. President Chen and Foreign Minister Tien have conveyed their condolences and firm support to the United States in this tragic period. AIT appreciates the Taiwan authorities excellent support in providing increased security for Americans residing in Taiwan. AIT is open only for American citizen services today. We expect that AIT will be open for full services tomorrow. AIT is sending a message to American citizens through its warden system. The message advises relatives, friends, and employees of phone numbers to call for information on the situations that were affected in the U.S. AIT reminds those wishing to travel to the U.S. that the Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all flights in the United States and that airports are closed.
