AIT Commercial Section and Market Information Center of III to Lead E-Commerce Delegation to Silicon Valley December 3-9, 2000

The American Institute in Taiwan's Commercial Section announces that it will collaborate with the Market Information Center of the Institute for Information Industry (MIC/III) in leading a 14-member trade delegation to Silicon Valley, December 3-9, 2000. Delegates will include senior executives from local application service provider (ASP) firms. The purpose of the mission is to provide a useful exchange between Taiwan firms and U.S. suppliers of ASP-related hardware, software and solutions.
Demand for ASP services is growing substantially in Taiwan, nurtured by the growth and prevalence of web-based activities in Taiwan and the need for technologies to facilitate both B2B (business-to-business) and (business-to-consumer) electronic business. According to a recent study by the Institute for Information Industry, the value of the Taiwan ASP market will reach approximately $320 million in 2000, $700 million in 2001, $1.5 billion in 2002 and $3.5 billion in 2003.
While in Silicon Valley, the delegation will meet with leading U.S. information technology firms including I2, Commerce One, Sun Microsystems, Broadvision, EMC, Ariba, IBM, Citrix, Corio, Verio, Ariba, Sybase and BEA Systems.
The delegation includes executives from leading firms, including Acer Incorporated, Digital United Inc., ESP Solution, Everscience Information System Company, Far Eastern Textile Group, InfoChamp Systems Corp., ITTS, InveStar Capital, Inc., Chief Telecom Inc., Lite-On eCommerce Corp., New Century InfoCom Company, Inc., Taiwan Telecommunication Networks Service Company, Ltd. Polaris Securities Group, Tatung Tisnet and Bizstart Consulting.
AIT and MIC/III have received funding from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency for this activity.
