U.S. Telecom Industry Trade Mission to Visit Taipei

The Commercial Section of the American Institute in Taiwan announces that it will host a 7-member telecom industry trade mission from the United States to Taiwan November 16-17, 2000. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Telecommunications Industry Association, the mission will introduce representatives of the U.S. telecom firms to qualified Taiwan agents, distributors and joint venture partners. The U.S. delegation includes suppliers of wireless equipment, prepaid service cards, systems technology, Internet/intranet infrastructure technologies, content management solutions, IP and data solutions, and networking software. AIT's Commercial Section has arranged a series of activities for the delegation including two days of business appointments for each delegate firm.

The delegation will be led by John Klingelhut, U.S. Department of Commerce/International Trade Administration. Mr. Klingelhut has served with Department of Commerce for 30 years and is presently the Director of the Office of Public/Private Initiatives. He has served with the Department in Tokyo and Sydney and has organized trade shows and missions in over 25 countries.

Over the next three years, Taiwan plans to spend an estimated US$6 billion to expand and upgrade its telecommunications infrastructures. This substantial investment is aimed at enhancing services in both wireline and wireless telecommunications to support Taiwan's rapid industrialization and economic growth. Part of the mission of AIT's Commercial Section is to foster productive business relationships between the U. S. and Taiwan firms interested in doing business in this growing sector
