U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce Robert Larussa to Visit Taipei

Robert LaRussa, Under Secretary of the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce will visit Taipei on Friday, October 27 to discuss steel trade. During his brief visit, Undersecretary LaRussa will meet with relevant Taiwan officials.

As head of the International Trade Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Mr. LaRussa is responsible for formulating and leading U.S. trade policy.

Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. LaRussa was the Assistant Secretary for Import Administration, which administers the antidumping and countervailing duty trade laws. He played a key role in advancing the U.S. position on dumping and subsidy issues in the WTO and the U.S.-China bilateral negotiations. Mr. LaRussa led negotiations on the 1999 Russian Comprehensive Steel Agreement and a number of critical antidumping suspension agreements.


Mr. LaRussa joined the Commerce Department in 1993 and served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Commercial Service. Before joining the Commerce Department, Mr. LaRussa worked as international trade counsel to Rep. Sander Levin, a member of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. He served on the Clinton presidential transition team, working on international trade and manufacturing issues, as deputy to Dr. Laura D'Andrea Tyson prior to her appointment as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors.
